Hi guys,

I brough an engine of sunny jones about a year ago, it was sold as having hks 272 cams in it with a lift of 11.5 but im not sure if they are HKS at all as my own HKS ones had the stamp HKS and 264 on them quite clearly. this is the forum post

http://www.nissangtir.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=33624&KW=

Now I have taken some pictures for you to see and I was just wondering are these just stock ones? how could I tell for sure would I have to measure the lobes? im a bit clueless on how to measure them. They also dont look in that good condition realy and seem to have developed some surface rust even though I did try and coat them in some thick oil what could I do? would polishing help as I have noticed the same light rust on some of the crank bounce

They have N1466 stamped on them with 5 on one and 12 on the other, plus a 53J.

Don't know what make of cam they might be but they do look a bit worn and that sort of rust on the top of the lobe can't be good.. Crying or Very sad
My standard cams have a 53J written on them, if that helps.

yes make a difference if you choose the right ones for your requierments but not as much as a NA car. But i am sure unless they are 264 they need Shimed after and dialing in plus to dial them in =rr seshion

yeah i figured they need dialed in on rr, just wondered if they showed as much gains as an n/a setup would but you answered that alread Smile whats required from the r for new cams? stiffer valve spring, retainers, adjustable cam gears, maybe new valves? was going to do it in my last car but the money it was going to cost to have it done properly was just crazy

for road and curcuit youll find that either 258 or 264 cams work very well with a good spread of torque and power.
also with these you can retain the original valve springs assuming there in good order

running larger cams is a waste of time unless you up the rev limit to get the best of them and your playing with fire by doing that as these engines dont like anything above 8k rpm as you may experience valve bounce and thrown rockers etc

cheers for that ill forget about that mod then, 7.5k rpm is more than enough for me Smile

no dont think i worded it quite right

cams are a good mod but nothing bigger than 264's these youll get maximum use of at standard rev limit
go bigger and you wont get the benefit from them without rasing the rev limit
