Have you looked at the group buy of the mondena diff as knights of nee was talking about if there was not enough intrest on the mondena he would possibly do the phantom  instead .... remember the price was like £140 for it or somewhere along them lines .... any prices cheaper than that johnny ?

If you can get a deal on the phantom grip, then put a post in the "Group Buy section" & see if there is any interest Smile

So he did on his last post. All i could remember reading was he was getting a proper diff regardless. I will wait for him to read this. Price is not 140 its $299.95 £185 for standard $349.95 £215 for uprated and more again for the max version direct shipping is $25 the price could be slightly less but they need numbers on each type to give discount. Ps this is from them direct and are the same e bay dealer and all the others are distrobuters from other country's which i have not e mailed

I'd still rather have a proper diff if I can get one, But if not I will buy another one of these as they do work. I don't really understand the price difference though, The only difference between them as far as I'm away is stronger springs being fitted to the uprated version.

Exactully what i was thinking the e mail is not to clear looks like its maybe just two prices ?

ship direct internationally through USPS for $25. The kits are specified per the model vehicle. We have the base kit with the upgrade green spring kit option-$299.95,(350 hp/350 ft lbs torque) and the Xtreme Series -$349.95 (650 hp/650 ft lbs torque). It depends on your vehicle model in which kit is designated unless higher HP/torque is a concern for maximum traction needs in which our Xtreme Series also has a set up for 1000+ hp traction needs.

With a determined quantity and specific model

Sure they require machining of the spider wheel or wheels some people say long term the damage the diff but like anything there are good and bad points. I have one in my white car works well so i want one asap as sorting my car out. Do you mind if i organise something rob ?

I think you have to take 5 tho off the spider gears from memory, Worked well on my last car but I read the Honda guys don't like them much lol

Works very well on my other R for the money i can not complain. For sure a diff would be great i can not afford one but for most dare i say 90% of road going R's they are money well spent and work very well

I agree but I do worry about long term effects on the transfer box, I'd much rather pay the extra £300 odd quid for a proper diff if I could find one that is lol. I've not given up on the Modena diffs they're getting back to me next week as the guy dealing with it is away on holiday at the moment, Last time I spoke to him he was hoping to make some just to stick on the shelf rather than wait for the group buy, If they do I'll buy one of those instead.

How Does the Phantom Grip Work?
Phantom Grip's precision cut disc plates function as a disc-type limited slip in cornering and braking. Disc plates exert equal load against spider gears using spring pressure to control the amount of slippage at the wheels. Helping to accelerate quicker, while sustaining higher speeds through corners.

Phantom Grip offers 100% locking in hard acceleration. When torque is applied through acceleration the disc plates pivot, locking the spider gears, causing both wheels to exert equal power to the road, providing less torque steer than an ordinary differential. Although seemingly simple, the 'Phantom Grip design' offers as much maximum traction as other limited slips.

I think you're completely correct. From looking at the pic below:

Group buy on a phantom grip Manifoldandme001-1

I would imagine that any decent machine shop could make the two plates, space them out with 4 springs, and rivet(?) them together. The question would be are the plans copyrighted by Phantom Grip? For example, could we buy one of these, take it apart, and get it made/copied locally for a fraction of the price? Or would this be copyright infringement? Of course, there's nothing stopping someone using this as a base and making 'slight' alterations………………….

Regardless, I'd be interested, especially for my track car.

Cheers,
Dave

When you look at one you have to think to yourself how can this possible work, But it did cure the under steer in my last Pulsar so it must do as they say.

phantom Grip is a cheap fix & has compromises.
surface friction area is very small which is not good & the extra load pushing on side gears will cause more rapid wear & you ideally need change oil more regularly & have good magnets to pick up debris.
Doing a real good job on these requires extra hardening of the gears & casing to promote longer life & keep friction between the grip plates & the side gears.
Other maintenance such as spring replacing or shimming will be needed after a short while as small amount of loss of load will effect performance drastically on this design.
Incredibly innovative & low cost thus will suite a few peoples usage & budget.
Modena diff is another level of engineering & performance benefit & budget too.
