i got a leak in my sump pan after i bashed some dents out, i thought i done it right but seems not, so could someone tell me the correct way to refit this, do i have to leave the sealant to dry a little before fitting? and should i wait a while before fully tightening the bolts?

Im figuring the sealant is partly to blame as it wasnt the greatest of stuff so im now using some locktite stuff for peace of mind

just bought some 10w50 ester oil and dont fancy having to replace that anytime soon as its not the cheapest of stuff.

Thanks and sorry for the noob questions im still learning Smile

theres no special way mate.
i would say it was the sealant you used.

this time give it time to harden before you put the oil back in the engine.
see what the packet says for drying time Wink

we all started sometime so dont worry about the questions!

i was on the phone to my mate and brother earlier asking noob questions and ive been in this gtir game for a few years lol

ive always found the best way to re seal sumps that do not use a gasket it run a nice bead around the sump about 5ish mm then push the sump up untill you see the sealant start to bulge out then put all the bolts in and hand tight them all to where the sump is sitting already make sure it looks even all the way round then let it go off then tighten the bolts off the rest of the way job done

yeah well when i done my clutch and started the car up there was a sensor in the sump plug and wire got caught on something and snapped the bolt out and dropped the all the oil over the floor so had to refill with castrol gtx 10w40 as its all i could get hold of at the time of night it was, the oil was just changed also so it wasnt that old, but i noticed the dent in the sump and got it fixed but i just reused the oil as it had only done 100 odd miles.

now i have to drop the oil again as the sump is leaking so i forked out for the fuchs 10w50 pro s stuff from opie so im hoping i can fix it properly this time with good sealant and good oil and not have to worry about it for a good while. yeah its cost me a quite a fortune already but i guess learning to fix cars yourself sometimes costs more than actually taking it to a garage Smile
