hi
all cold weather is settling in i having problems in the morning starting and once started idles crap untill warm but this morning i thought i would just unplug the afm and it ran a dream on idle then soon as i put it back in the engine is miss firing or something like that any way or could i have a leak some where?

Did you try a fault code check?

Try to see on the workshop manual online, it's very helpfull, tyres is many troubleshooting process if no one can help you in here.

maybe your maf, ecu might be setting it back to default when disconnected

try cleaning maf element with contact cleaner, get some @ maplins in a spray can. could have some shi7 on it, dried oil etc.
theres also the IACV, iirc that is the idle when cold valve, maybe sticking..
also colder air now is more dense. try pulling ecu power for an hour to reset it, i know it stores maf readings..
and ecu will use a stock maf setting if its removed/unplugged.

I had a similar issue when cold, like a weird miss fire/pop check the cold start under the inlet plenium drivers side on right hand drive models

It may be a problem with your coolant temperature sensor? Just a thought as wouldn't think the AFM would alter with temperature Smile

And this, usually get found out in winter if failing ;_) probably cheapest fix first too..

I have the same problem as you mate but doesn't matter if it's hot or cold runs fine with the maf unplugged plug the maf in and cuts out runs with a miss etc

buy some electric contact cleaner from halfords for 3.99 and spray the maf to clean it

I think the problem with mine is the timing is out as I need to de advance the timing right back for it to run with the maf can anyone confirm this?
