had a massive pc prob today which ive only just managed to fix scratch
had this before evidentally its a ransom virus by the met police which stops you opening any windows at all............a right bastad to get rid of.

took me 4 hours last time but this time its taken nearly the whole day as its seems to have been modified to not even allow you to open up your pc in safe mode.
I got rid of it in the finish by pure luck and frustration after keep turning the hard drive on and off repeatedly which then brought up a start up error and allowed me to recover system to an earlier date, then binned the Trojan virus by scanning with antivirus software.

a whole bloody day wasted, how fookin annoying Sad

Sure can be, need keep on top of computing or it a complete nightmare & can bring a business to stand still these days.
Good AV & sensible use is a must. another handy trick for business use is a batch script for creating a silent restore point at daily logon. this gives you the ability to restore with minimal loss & in Windows 7 proves very reliable & quick way of getting up & running. Having a Windows install disc or boot usb on hand for repairs & restores is handy too. cloned hard drive of a good setup is handy too & can be updated as required & gives you faster recovery when things go tits up :-S
Nothing worse than wasted time on bloody computers ...

im just pleased I sorted it as im not the cleverest of people when it comes to this kind of stuff, just doesn't interest me in the slightest but as you say a real pain in the butt when it gets a virus like that.
was the hardest one ive had to sort out as of yet

lol yeah when im a bigger and older I may be rich Laughing

don't know where they come from : /
ive a strange reason it may be connected to avg antivirus software updates but I could be wrong

basically it comes up with a screen full page with metropolitan police warning at the top saying your computer has been locked due to illicit material being uploaded but if you pay the ransom fine then we will free the lock............that's the general gist of it

Ajay.

funnily enough i had this about few weeks back same as described, screen all locked up at start with police fine etc luckly i had googled up on it via phone and found out to be a fake virus, had avg antivirus at the time so maybe somefink to do with that.

You need to make up a back up copy of your pc then you can just boot up from disc so need to muck about  and wont get locked out of it .....

Leighton its me your talking to lol...............do you honestly think ive got the capabilities to do that Laughing
im amazed I fixed it twice tbh, don't know whether its by pure luck or maybe im a little cleverer than I think I am when it does go wrong and I have to work out how to fix it.
thing is once its running I cant be bothered with doing stuff to it but like sye said above I really do think avg updates has something to do with it.
what other free antivirus software is there about as I may delete avg altogether and use something else

Theres a few different ones going about ..... some of them attach a file directly into the windows registry so doesnt matter how many times you reboot  the pc it wont make the slightest bit of difference .... until you go in to the bios and delete it through there .

As i work in IT support I've fixated a few pcs with this, normal fix is to login as another user in safe mode with networking ( press f8 when booting), eg administrator, and run malware bytes full scan. Also run a root kit scan as it might come back or have another nasty program running.

You will need to set up another user on the pc for that to work in the first place bob .... as you will probably be the administrator on your  pc ...

stay away from norton it just slows computers down and is known to infect computers with viruses so people buy the product to remove it. i couldnt remove mine with just anti virus had to use various spyware removers.

maybe get yourself an external hard drive and back up your data, windows 7 will do it automatically and you can also restore from your windows install disc i think

Really i used to run norton with no problems ..... better off sorting out your firewall so you can catch the viruses be it hits the pc ....

seen nothing but problems from people with mcafee and norton on computers, crashing, slow performance etc but solved once they remove it i dunno i never advise anyone to install it as its usually just a pain, i find the free antivirus the best (avast)

Yes norton is not a favourite with many, Company I work with use Kaspersky & it proves to be quite good & intuitive to use. Not expensive either as can buy 3 user licence for around £6 to £10 .
Setting up regular auto saved restore points & a clone of hdd is a must really, can seem hassle but will save a lot of time & frustration when things go wrong from viruses, software installation & hdd failure ...
as said above Avast is good for free but worth paying a lttle for good AV software.
