O no he didn't lol

He put the whole vvl engine in I think.

Wezz was doing the vvl head onto Gtir block but not sure if he ever finished it.

i may be wrong but turbo compression is usually alot lower than a vvl and you need a higher comp ratio to make use of the high lift cams, this was the case with hondas anyway

Thought the valve control was done on oil pressure?

im not sure about that but hondas had to change for high comp pistons when using vtec head on non vtec bottom end, and turboing a vtec you have user lower comp pistons which usually came from a lower power engine.

as i say im not too sure about the nissan way but vvl is just similar to vtec?

you will also need an oil feed from the sump to the head for "vtec"

probably totally different on nissans so im probably talkin shit

Yeah as Stu said I put the whole SR20VE engine in the fwd Nissan Sunny Gti.

Wezz was going o do the vvl swap on his Gtir at the time but never did. He had moved onto something else now.

I was thinking of putting my vvl head onto a Gtir if I could find a cheap one (gtir).

Still looking into it but don't really have much info on it.
From what I am aware you need to do the following at least.

Drill block for for external oil feeds for the vvl activation
Machine vvl head for the larger gtir head studs

I was just trying to look into what pistons, head gasket and itb is used.

redrill head stud bores & resize dowel bores.
54c headgasket.
Check pistons are ok for highlift of VVL cams if not may need machining to suit.
oil feed for VVL is simple & outline on drilling for oil line & plugging original oil feed can be found online & standard exhaust bolts on.
Main area of involvement is inlet manifold needs a nice custom build to work with either a cut up Frankenstein build from original GTiR quad throttle or complete single throttle build to suit the VVL low port mount & minimum rear space in the GtiR .

can take revs upto around 9k rpm without the risk of throwing rockers all over the place so much more tunable than the gtir head

Mazworx do all the conversion parts. I nearly won the engine that when for 700 on ebay was going to go down that route Sad

i guess you couldnt switch over stuff from a vvl head to a gtir head to gain similar results?

Very nice info, hopefully someone can put a documentation on this or atleast with pictures Smile
