Top end rattle

I had what sounded like a top end rattle at 1500 rpm hitch lasted half a second so took rocker head off and first lug on inlet cam had a lot of wear on it a mechanic told me that was my problem so I've purchased 2nd hand cams but new cam has same damage to it havnt yet fitted them as they just come today just wondering if any1 knew anything bout it or had same problem cheers in advance lads

unlikely to be cam as worn cams tend to knock not rattle!

check shim clearances first of all.......ideally set them at 0.10mm inlet and exhaust
check oil spray bars to make sure they are not blocked
check timing chain and tensioner as could be worn / stretched
