oooh thats not good at all

youll probably get away with another skim on the head but the blocks fooked.
if you reuse that itll just be a source for more heat transfer in that area.
i dont know how deep the det goes but i guess it would need about 1mm removed to get rid of that which is too much especially seeing as the head needs another skim aswell

i would see if you can source another block tbh

SIR GTI-R

SIR GTI-R

I've got a 1.8mm gasket coming didnt realise the Block had so little to be able to be removed
is it just the Boost i was running ? i knew Det was bad but DAM when i did hear it i backed off but a remember reading somewhere if you hear it its to late.. seems i Missed the boat completely pale

so removing anything More than 1mm is asking for trouble ?

im not sure tbh on measurements but i wouldnt have thought it was advisable to remove more than that especially with the head skimmed too.

you could possibly make it up with a thick gasket but you would need to determine exactly how much materials been removed over stock measurements

Old thread, but will add that the block is scrap and so are the pistons, the det has been attracted to the weakest and hottest area, and that is because of an oversized head gasket 88+ mm on a small bore has left a wide plateau on top of the deck surface.

You want about .5mm between h/g and bore on a proper built engine.

So you should fit an 86.5mm h/g on a standard bore engine? Why's that?

Read what I wrote as that tells you why

I understand that as you have said, having to wide a h/g will draw heat etc into the gap between head and block which has caused the det in this case, but why not fit an 86mm on a standard block? Or have i missed something?

Sorry misread what you ment, yeah if the block is standard fit a standard bore one, if you are building a race engine with bigger bore Clearence forged pistons you will need to fit a .5mm bigger gasket. The pistons are 86mm the bore is 86.35 mm for argument sake so you actually end up with the high possibility that once the pistons expand they can catch the head gasket and cause damage.....I have seen this happen on some engines hence why it's better to bore the block to suit 86.5mm pistons and use an 87mm gasket from cosworth or bore to 87.5mm and use an 88mm cosworth , tomei, hks gasket....and yes you can bore out to 87.5mm...most people think that the block is scrap at 87mm but it's not the standard liners can take it....same as the phallicy about grinding cranks you can go up to.5mm undersized on them before you have gone thru the gas nitriding and even then it won't weaken it that much if you go to 1mm for all but serious hp cars like 600bhp onwards.
