1ABS clocks Empty ABS clocks 18th March 2012, 7:51 pm

My car came with an awful set of lockwood dials so i got another set of clocks
my car is an ABS type not antilock

i got a new set of standard clocks, removed my lockwood clocks, and then comparing the backs of them they both seem slightly different, mainly to the left hand of the clocks, my lockwoods are the bottom set, they appear to have three holes showing while my new ones dont (under the middle plug port).

Second main difference is -
On the top clocks, under the large black sensor thing there are two holes, while on the lockwood set (bottom set), there is one hole

Also on the new clocks (top) what is that large black sensor for ?

My question is . . .
Can i plug these slightly different clocks in and work fine??

Oh and how do i correct my milage on the new clocks

Looks like you've bought the wrong type clocks for you're car mate.

The black plug on the new clocks is for the alarm that tells you you've left you're lights on I think.

What do you mean speedo part bob?
It's really annoying . . I thought it was just ABS or antilock lol, I should have known it would be so simple it's a pulsar at the end of the day lol.
Oh and Stu I just checked all the plugs are the same size

bob means the speedo clock inside comes out when you unscrew it. so you can swap them over. which will sort youre milage out aswell.

Trouble is stu if he changes speedo over and it has a dial kit and thats what he is getting rid of it means swaping the faces and pulling needles off both speedo and its a case of getting speedo to read right Mph

Oh right! So it is the part behind the the speedo dial face, has all the mileage and trip attatched to it?
That's sounds positive if I have got it right

Main reason for changing is the Lockwoods threw out all reading (temperature & fuel mainly) so need to avoid this again

Much appreciate it stu Wink

Its not too bad doing the speedo change is it?

I thought it was more temp & fuel that loose calibration?

yes as stu said above really

there is another way of course!
if you remove the plastic front cover off clocks then run the car upto temp with clear cover off once the fans kick in then car is at approx 90 degrees water temp....hold the spindle with thin nose pair of pliers and move the needle just past middle setting then you then know thats as near as damn it correct.
the same can be done with the fuel gauge if you know rough quantity of fuel in the tank.
as stu said its the speedo and rev counter which are the hardest to calibrate
which is why i suggested just swapping the circuit boards over
