Im in 2 minds to wether i should do the 1 bar loop or not, my car is running standard boost just now but in the 1.5 years ive had it ive never had any real problems apart from the original clutch going, should i do it or will it just be the start of a whole line of problems? in fairness the car is probably the most reliable car i have ever owned so dont want it to start raping my pocket daily for stuff other than fuel but it does get a little boring as it feels slow sometimes

Any opinions on what the pro;s and cons are and if i should do it or leave it as is?

im prepared to do things right and im in for the long haul Smile

Think you will be pretty safe running 1 bar, Just get fueling checked on rollers to be safe

Go for it, cheapest way of making more power, I did it with mine years ago, quite suprising the difference it makes but as above, worth getting fueling checked.

yeah i was told i had a groupe n fuel pump already but no receipt so was gonna just replace it and also buy an aem afr to keep things in check, get things checked on the rollers confused me though as i contacted a company and they said you need a boost controller before they can do anything

Dont buy another fuel pump just for the sake of it just check to see if you got one first ..... it takes about 10 minutes to take it out if you  dont want to pull it out take the ring off the top and the lid where it connects to and you should just be able to see it its generaly smaller than the oe ones so the cage looks to big for it so its normally cable tied or wedged in also tell tale signs will be the wires are solderd or jointed so you will be able to see some kind of join in them ....without pulling the whole thing out ...... a aem afr is a good idea though .... why would you need a
Boost controller to do that  that isnt correct .... i would check you have the restricter in the boost pipe though .

If your gonna check your fuel pump, make sure you've got less than half a tank of juice, that way it will be easier to see Wink

yeah i tried to take the fuel pump out but it looked like the covers etc had never been removed before, i will have a proper rake around tomorrow and confirm if it has one, what are the chances that the fueling will be off if i do the loop?

i wouldnt be to worried about your fuel pump over the years a lot have fitted the warlbro 255 type pump and founds its not flowing anymore than the standard fuel pump.when the gtir was first imported a lot of gtirs were running 1 bar on the standard pump and had been for years

really? if it will be better with a better fuel pump then i dont grudge £60 for a new one, im more concerned with the safety and reliability, will it do me any harm just looping it to see what its like? then just switching back till i get everything sorted, maybe im just being too eager i dunno

if your going to get a new pump get one that works the warlbro are cheap shite bosch are much better but a bit more of a hassle fitting
thing is when i first bought my first gtir in 1999 and for a few years later i had no computer so relied on a friend for computer use
once i bought a computer and spent more time on the forum i suddenly realised id been driving for 2 plus years on a car that was about to break dsown any second
think there is as many scare mongers about gtir reliability within the gtir community than there is any where else

I have never had a problem with my walbro and ive not heard of many issues with them? I knew the Bosch pumps were more expensive but for my spec the walbro is sufficient.

ok so should i wait to confirm about the fuel pump or is it safe to run 1 bar without the pump? ill buy a fuel pump if need be and really want a aem afr gauge anyway as i love gauges but just wanna try it out *grins*

I would say put the loop in, take it up the road and if your happy with it disconnect it until you know what pump you've got and your gauge to keep an eye on things.

I dont see no reason why not .... i still would check it first though if your out there swapping pipes over then just check for piece of mind .... i reckon you will be suprised how much more responsive it feels at a bar .

this is old news now with running a bar boost

simple answer is 'itll be fine'
a lot of cars still rin stock pump at a bar but imo you would be better to get a new genuine walbro (not fake) as rob said bosch are far better but more agg to fit.

deffo by a wideband as they are great for diagnosing probs as well as keeping a check on fuelling. youll also need an aftermarket boost gauge to make sure it does not spike boost

stop worrying about it and just do it, ecu is designed to run overly rich anyway, some people are running 1.2 on stock ecu (with fuelling checked) providing your ignition and fuelling system is all in good order its not a problem.

yeah gave it a shot and took it up the road a little, seems ok the boost was hitting 1.1bar, is that normal? thinkin its maybe the gauge thats out slightly, not had a chance to properly test it and have now put it back to standard till i get some more stuff Smile

seemed just stick there at 1.1bar, i have prosport gauges where the standard ones would have been, think i would need to test it properly as i didnt push the car at all just in case

had a look at my pump, just seems standard but managed to burst one of the pipes and fuel everywhere, anyone an idea on the cost of a garage to fix it? subframe off, and tank out?
