Took a chance with this one, after buying a universal pillar pod from ebay that had no chance of looking good when fitted i decided to try and mould it in for a more OEM look.
Bought a fibreglass kit from my local auto shop for £10.99
Tools required:
Hacksaw (or any saw i just used what i had)
Fibre Glass kit
spare paint brush as the stuff sets pretty quick
sellotape
various grades of sand paper
tin of primer
Time:
took me a few days of sanding etc to get most of the imperfections out but the flocking really does this for you.
pictures of the pod which would be screwed in
I then removed my A pillar which is just clipped on and started cutting the whole base from the pod, i then used a piece of Sellotape to hold the pod in place.
once i was happy with the position of the pod, i proceeded to apply a couple of pieces of the fibre glass, once you secure the pod you can remove the sellotape. the fibre glass was easy to work with
once i had covers the sides of the pod and everything had dried (about 20-30 minutes) i started sanding down. I painted the pod with primer as it was getting hard to see where the imperfections were so the paint mad it a bit easier and filled some of the little holes.
This is the nearly finished piece, after hours of priming and sanding the finish looks quite good, i am still to get on it with the electric sander to smooth the whole pillar down
This is the final flocked and fitted piece, really impressed with the results and looks awesome.
The flocking was done by a company called FLA and cost £15 For both pillars to be done and posted back
Cheers
