bought a few fittings (aeroquip) cant get anything to fit on the oil inlet. had a male/male but then cant get the 90 degree fitting on as its hitting the manifold above. is there any other fitting like the original stell one you can buy?

also the actuator is hitting the engine/gearbox housing (where these 2 alan key bolts together) do I need to cut the block a bit, only it looks like I need to cut a lot, ive tried moving the actuator but cannot move anymore. anyone else got any ideas. Ive also got 2 gaskets incase the unit needs to sit further out.

When I fitted my turbo I had to grind away parts of the engine as the bolt on metal pipe was catching it but didn't take too much off, i'd say around 5mm. With the forge actuator I got it wouldn't fit in the usual place so i had to fabricate a custom holder.

would it make any difference if I used the original actuator? as ive fitted the oem holder and actuator and the turbo fits on as normal. but when I fit the new actuator the rod is too short. whats the best thing to do, use old actuator or extend and weld the new rod?

also for oil feed pipe can I use a banjo instead of the original type bolt, I see there is a nipple in the turbo does this make any difference?

cheers Tom

You could use the original actuator as they are set to 0.5bar I believe but I think people tend to use uprated ones as they hold the wastegate shut better when running higher boost? And also the fact that a 20year old actuator has gone weak over the years. You could fit the original and just replace it at a later date, especially if your running in a new engine.

right well owen dev said they would swap the actuator for a new straight rod one which is fine Smile but still having trouble making up a inlet hose, cant seem to get anything to fit into the turbo inlet hole, Ive tried various aeroquip adaptors (turbo flanges etc) but they dont screw in very far prob only one whole turn, unlike the original steel fitting which screws in all the way. has anyone made there own inlet pipe and knows which fittings they used otherwise I will just fit the original steel pipe and change the oil more regularly.

cheers Tom

this for the oil feed pipe ? i aint fitted my filter yet never looked at its fittings  but my plan is something along the lines of  use my braded hose with its fitting into turbo itself but take it to to local hydrolic hose place if needed to fit connections to fit  filter inline

well johnny I went to 2 paces yesterday, (agricultural merchant who specialise in hydraulic hoses etc) and also (bearing man/hayley) both places said they cant make anything Rolling Eyes, typical british engineering ...... Mad. so late last night made my own pipe with the fittings I bought, it all fits fine but the one 90 degree elbow seems loose, you can swivel the pipe round but Ie tightened it right up, so maybe its meant to move round who knows Question. (i know if any elbows are loose on the digger, its means they are leaking oil although I think im right in saying that hydraulic pumps are higher pressure Shocked.

I will try and get some photos up of the pipe and fittings so you can see and also help others as this has been a shit of a job.

I got a gt3076gtx on my pulsar that has done a 1000mile since engine being built but I have now put on a precision 6262 just for a test run .. But I had the gt30 on my coupe not one problem even running at 2.1 bar of boost .. My first coupe had a gt28rs 86 that was on the car for 5 years running 1.4 bar with a 1.2 bar actuator not one problem the only thing i put on was a 1.0mm oil restrictor

agree with above

providing the oil is regularly changed ive never had any troubles.
biggest cause of roller bearing turbo failiure is boost pipes blowing off and turbo over run which tends to kill them rather quickly (as ive found the hard way)
better off making sure you have damned good clamps to keep the pipes on.

and yes the elbow to turbo feed should be tight, if its not oil will piss out and youll have to take it all off again

you were right bob, ive had the engine ticking over to check timing and vacuum hoses, and guess whats underneath the car a nice puddle of oil from the elbow feed pipe  Mad

so after all my hard work it looks like ive gotta take the turbo off in situ afterall (not happy) although one good thing is what dan said about fitting a filter in the line, I checked it last night and there was some very fine fragments of metal from the engine etc so at least its helped save the turbo abit.

need to ask a few of you once ive taken the turbo off shall i put the original oil feed pipe back and change the oil more regularly or try and get the new oil line (elbow) to seal??
