Happy Newyear everyone
Hope 2019 is a good one
With one thing and another good and bad but this year one of my cars will be back on the road

What’s people’s plans cars,bikes,family,holidays etc ?????

Happy New Year everyone too. Hope we're all not too hungover?  

My plan was to replace the fuel and rear brake pipes but its too difficult for me to finish off without a lift. Mike has kindly agreed to take over the work so in a few weeks time it'll be trailered to his place and hopefully come back with 12 months MOT.
Then its getting sold. This time im definite about it. After a break ill be on the lookout for a new R project and start over again.

Dont sell it cosmic, you'll regret it almost instantly. If you can, stick it in storage for a few months and then get it recommissioned in time for summer. If you sell yours now, you'll have wasted all the time and effort you put into it, only to have to go through it all again on a new car.

As much as I want to say keep it, I can understand why you want to get another and start again, it’s certainly enjoyment from building/ working on a car just as much as there is enjoyment from owning one and just driving it. I’m sure you’ll be happy with what ever decision you make mate

It's like Woody says. I get more enjoyment from stripping and rebuilding the engines/gearboxes and putting an otherwise scrapped car, back on the road. Also, the work that my R needs, is the kind of work i don't enjoy doing, eg dealing with rust etc so i just want a bit of a break. Then the passion and energy will return for a new challenge.

You also got let johnny raid your garage of parts and brand stamp your butt with a red hot P badge .
I can understand hating rot as so do I and I detest doing bodywork but you be hard pushed buy one in europe without rot unless fresh off the boat from japan and buying restored risky as quality of weld work and paint 99% of time not great and don't last .
Your car got some good points and you done lot of niggles plus got a good gear kit, I would lay it up and find proper panel restorer (easier said than done but few really good ones if hunt them down) followed by full respray and cavity wax spray .

When I got out of hospital and went to the place I had it painted it was perfect.
When I was in better health I saw the place that I took it to to get the rot cut out and new arches and sills welded in.
They had just put the new arches over the old ones and hadn't even sorted the inner arches. And they had cut my new sills into pieces and patch repaired them by putting the new metal over the holes.
They had me over.
The car looks great but it's just hiding a nightmare.

Echoes what happened to me. Paid a fortune for new rear wings just for the rot to reappear after only 2 years

The rot hasn't come through mine because he layer the new panels on top.
If you put your hand at the back of the arch lip you can feel through the old arches rot.
Luckily my mate is a good fabricator. He didn't have time to do it before.
But has said he will do it this time.
And the painter is a good friend now that I've done a few signage jobs for free of charge so should sort me out with a fresh paint job.
I just need to buy the arches and sills again.
We live and learn I guess mate.

Yeh good panel repair is super skilled, takes fekking days do right and needs fussy worker .
Most are wham bam, only about 1 in 100 any good, same with paint, do it right is hours of labour and knowing best materials . most fuck you over with shortcuts and easy or cheap materials but charge you for expensive . No paint in a spray booth is equal to what they using in factories in 90's .
Is expensive game and heart breaking if goes wrong . Luckily stu got true grit and is as durable as a pulsar crank and eats R rust flakes for breakfast as a substitute for cornflakes.

@cosmic, wouldn't sell up just over arches as too much else been put right, chances of buying better is slim unless spend around 10K
Best parking her up and find a decent panel repair guy and know how you want it done and either spot check repair or get it pictured and emailed .
Generally best panel guys won't be sprayers which to your benefit as they can't hide work under finished paint like bodyshops do .
Most bodyshops are totally wank even if well hyped, look to classic car guys as they ones who keep cars for years after work and really know who good .

I took mine to a guy at the end of his working life.
He used to be spot on with his work.
We've had cars repaired from salvage over the years by him.
That's why I chose him.
Guess now he's old he doesn't have the passion any more.

As you say B it’s finding a good one at a price you can afford but it’s time consuming to do it right
