Right, my engine has just been rebuilt, new shells, new rings, block decked etc etc.

Put the engine back in and started it up and it sounded like it was misfiring slightly and wouldn't idle, took the plugs out and cylinder one was wet, changed the plugs put it back together, started it and now it's not misfiring but it will not idle.

As soon as you let your foot off the throttle it just dies and the afr is saying it's running very rich (10's)

I have played with air screw and it makes no difference at all.
I have a set of vernier pulleys fitted to my standard cams and they have in the past been adjusted, when the timing was re done this time it was timed up to standard settings. Could this have an effect on the idle?

Has any body got any ideas as to what could be causing this problem? Any help would be much appreciated Very Happy

Have you tried pinching the pcv hose at the back left corner if the cam cover while its idling? If theres a leak the revs will rise. Also check your bov isnt sticking open too. Try unplugging the maf and see if its any better...im sure itll be something simple Smile

Yes Johnny, everything the same but set back to standard, going to try changing back to as it was, Mike no I haven't tried that, but I will thanks, I'll try that with the maf, also going to try another z32 to see if that helps.

Have you put a timing light on it?

It will more than likely be a boost leak somewhere

if there is one on a mapped car it creates havoc with ecu and will run ultra rich so double check everything (including dv and carbon canister if you have one fitted, Before you start messing with engine timing i very much doubt its that.
If timing has been turned back to stock it will make no difference at all at idle speed Wink

Does sound likely air leak somewhere if not holding idle and screw not making any idle change .
I would also consider setting cams at same degrees as was dialled in pre build as see no point in verniers reset to zero . Have seen some idle differences with cam timing but extent depends on cams in use and amount they being altered.

Sorry Pete i never realised it was mapped before with degree'd Cams, thought they were 0d before it was mapped.
In which case yes it will make a difference to fuelling as inlet cam was more than likely retarded 2 degrees and probably the ex cam too!
This will open the valves slightly earlier which makes a better spool time liw & midrange. If that is the case then you would need more fuel as borh sets valves are opening earlier so more fuel is needed as you have a better burn rate.
So this could be why its stalling as its bogging down with fuel.

Is it running rich higher up in the rpm?

I'm not sure atm if it's running rich higher up the Rev range as with it being a freshly built engine I don't want to Rev it too much. With my foot on the throttle i didn't notice if it was rich or not, not until foot off throttle and watched it in the 10s before dying

I think I'm right in saying that the cams were set on the verniers at 0.040" (inlet ) and 0.030" (exhaust) when it was mapped
