Do you know if this developed after a rebuild or some other work or got worse over time?? Other than the noise does it still drive OK?
Other than suggesting some obscure bracket or bolt is loose and vibrating, exactly what you have already mentioned- i'd check chain tension and shim clearance. The injectors in all r''s I've owned had a loud injector tick but I think this sounds a bit more than that

Hi thanks for the reply it has had it ever since I have owned it. But it's getting to me at the moment. Doesn't affect the performance of it at all and still drives perfect like the day I bought it. I would say the motor has been rebuilt at one stage as the compression across all 4 cylinders is at 170psi.

Very very difficult to say as sounds like multiple issues tbh

We just sorted out an engine for someone (which came in for shimming) yet ended up being incorrect titanium valve springs and retainers coupled with incorrect Jun cams which were meant for sr20de with hydraulic lifters.

This causes a lot of valve train noise due to the rate the cams come off their profile & the extra tensile springs cause the valve to slam into the seat and vibrate.

Not suggesting thats whats wrong with yours but removing both the sump pan to access the oil pickup to check for obstructions and also the rocker cover to assess clearances and isdues is the first place to start

Thank you I will take the rocker cover off today. Is there a guide of how to check the shims
