Just dropping this here Smile
One mudflaps was off when I took the photo.
My R 20161026_111038_zpswpeqeyjr

Anyways.
I popped into a mates place today to see about having the car painted.
He gave me a great mates rates price so im popping to a local place tomorrow to get booked in for the rear arches to be repaired.
Hopefully they can book me in very soon Smile
The arches aren't really bad but they need new metal and one sill needs sorting.
So I will get that done too and then she will have a fresh coat of paint Smile
He is taking the roof back to bare metal because the old paint has crashed.
Looking forward to some shows through the year now Smile

Yeah was just to stop it from spreading and make it look better mate.
I'm fedup of seeing different shades of grey and want to bring the car to shows this year.

Dropped my car off this morning Smile
Had a phone call this afternoon. They can't remove the rear arch trims without damaging them Sad
I will have to try and remove the ones off the shell I have.
Should have it back Wednesday.
Just have to live with primer until next month then lol

What was the problem with removing them Stu? Were they glued on?

To help it through the last mot I bunged a load of plastic metal behind the arch lip to hide the rot Laughing
This is now causing them a harder time to get to the fixings Embarassed

Argh yeah that's no good. If you are in need I have a couple of rear trims bob sent me I no longer need. You can have them for free, probably cheaper just buying them over there though if your other ones are no good.

Thanks for the offer Chris.
They are hard to get over here mate.
I will try and get the ones off my shell first.
If I fuck it up I will message you.

We're the inner arches and sills ok then?

Inner arches had any started to rust and not all the arch was rotten..
Sills had 2 smallish holes in them.

Well my excitement turned into disappointment today Sad
I know I said that I didn't want him to paint the arches. I said it's going in for paint so if he could prep it and primer it I would be happy...
It looks a right mess. Not a big issue as Jay the painter said he will sort that out.
Thing is tho the rear arch where it meets the back bumper is sticking out a couple of mm.
Not the end of the world but seeing the car the way it is has left me feeling sorry for myself Laughing
Plus it looks like he has just cut out the rot in the one sill and plated over it instead of welding the plate in the hole.
I know the skirts cover it. But I will know it's there.
It might be that he hasn't ground the welds off enough and im just over reacting..
Guess you get what you pay for and the good deal I thought I had wasn't as good as I thought Sad

Hey Stu, sorry to hear about that.
It looks OK in the pics but like you say, "you know its there"
Did the welder follow the arch weld guide etc?
My arches are due to be done at the end of this month so if there's any lessons to be learnt or watch outs id be grateful to learn.

Hi Neil.
The welder has been doing this kind of work for years so I didn't feel the need to give him any advice...
It isnt half as bad as I make out to be fare. I just had high expectations lol
Once the body shop has worked their magic it should look fine.
Gonna ask them to see if they can get the end of the arch tucked back in or hammered back in atleast.
