Identify these Gearbox stud blanks

Ignore the left arrow, its the right stud thats buggered.
I was looking under someones gtir i'm working on and the studs been bodged with two crush washers and its been cross threaded so won't tighten. What i want to know is is it a stud or is it holding something together? not sure i can tap a thread either as i have nothing to go in it.

If i take it out gearbox fluid will piss out

Looks like the ones that have springs and ball bearings in to keep the casing on?

Thats what i was thinking. Can that be taken out and put back in easy though? Might try tapping it later with a sump plug

They are the plugs that hold the 'springs and detent ball's' in place that lock the shifter rods for gear selection.
Lose them and the gearbox will 'lock-up' as the selectors won't work.
Very important items in the gearbox, so the plug (bolt) should be securely located, not just bodged.

Oh well i took it out and nothing fell out. I just put another bolt in, its not the right size and no idea if the other was but it was completely bodged and its the only thing i can do.

Just looked at my spare gearbox and the gearbox specialist hasnt put them back in or I woukd have sent you one

Was there a spring inside the hole?

the bolted one is for reverse idler selector, the other 2 with cap type bolts have the detent springs and bearings which hold selector arm in place on the rod, without them it will just slop in & out of gear unless held in place with your hand and as said eventually it will drop a selector in gear so you wont be able to engage the gear your after so crucial they are fitted back

Sorry to hijack this thread but how come the top of my gearbox housing isnt shaped like this one?

Its got a brace on it
