Appologies if this has been discussed to death before, but are the the short shift gear levers any good? worth while upgrade?

Only reason I ask is as the cars still stripped im thinking nows the time to replace it whiles its off the car.

I have a tomei shifter kit on mine & really like it.
Not really a major advantage but if do go for one buy a decent brand one.
Gear change can be improved with new bushes, spring & modding the rubber mount to solid.

Have heard the eBay blue ones can cause problems with syncros down the line is this true?

I have felt a few shorter shifters before and really didn't like them. A standard shifter with new bushes and spring is the best but that's just my opinion mate. Dodgy short shifters can make you miss gears and cause damage aswell

Ive put a new bush in and spring, making a rear solid mount to replace rubber one. I did buy a BM one years ago, never fitted it and later sold it on.

Might just 'stick' with the standard one then!

Cheers guys

In my first gtir we fit a bm short shifter and i found i would miss shift sometimes while spirited driving.
It was hard to get used to.

I personally like the b&m short shifter, never miss shifted once with it but did a few times with the standard. Was a genuine b&m, not ebay

Do they still make the genuine b&m's for the R?

Mine was back in 2006 and was a genuine one.
My current pulsar feels very short when i shift gear. I havent checked to see if it has one on. I dont have any problems shifting this one Smile

tomei shifter kit is best I ever used, B&M original is ok.
Technically they can work your syncros bit harder but I done 16 years driving & 50,000km on one & never had syncro issue & find the gear change perfection .
Like woody says though, new bushes & springs on standard shifter produces a nice change/feel ...

The standard shifter is best left at the standard length aswell. Don't go chopping it down Laughing

Mine was mega easy as its off the car Laughing I got the bush off eBay, from canada. But when I got my polybush kit delivered for the whole car, there was one in that too, doh! I got the spring from Nissan, few quid I think.
