Well after always wanting a GTI-R from when i was a young drive but couldn't afford the sky high insurance, well roll on 25 years and finally decided
i needed to get the gti-r box ticked.

so earlier this year i purchased a car which ran but was rough then decided the body was not worth all the work so purchased a rolling chassie that was
not in better condition and so the project to restore back to a standard car. This won't be a fast project but done a few bits

so far I've stripped engine bay
the big one IMG_2948_zpsca6dc210

taken all dash out
the big one IMG_2947_zpsb6e30d68

then started to strip underside of everything and strip all under seal off the car back to bare metal

the big one IMG_2708_zpsf0898a64
the big one IMG_2707_zps683a37b7
the big one IMG_2716_zpsd2f25112

along with the above I've sandblasted all rear subframe and suspension arms and cleaned a few bits

so just a few bits done and a lot more to go, all the above are bare metal not painted.
should look nice when all done

does look good, is all vapour blasted so closes the pours of the metal and makes keeping it
clean a lot easier as grime dons stick to the metal so easily, whole engine will be done
same way.

Tell me about it Pete, that's fantastic. We could have a charity event here. Guess the weight of nuts and bolts remaining in the bottom of the box once the car is back on the road!! I'd love to do this but 2 problems one I'd never get it all back together and 2 I'd never be arsed lol

Well its my first ever full car strip so a box
Of bolts will probably be left.

had one wheel arch to Finnish, so bit of time with wire brush on grinder to Finnish off what i had started earlier.
this wax oil is a royal pain in ass to get off and is horrid product and one i won't use on this rebuild.

before
the big one IMG_2983_zpsfa9e62a8

the big one IMG_2984_zps61c847df

after
the big one IMG_2985_zps9c0b6493the big one IMG_2986_zps0a0c85b4the big one IMG_2987_zpsa9aca8f7

then painted with rust killer as a backup I've done this on all arches even if not needed the big one IMG_2988_zps51b3b60d

also financed taking chassie rails off the underside of car, took the whole lot off front to back as you could see some rust between surfaces so wasn't happy to leave them on.
just a not to anyone thinking of doing this, its a pain of a job even with a car ramp.
if i was doing it again i would make a jig so car could be turned on side.
the big one IMG_2989_zps46ee55bf
the big one IMG_2990_zps746113d8

purchased new front chassis rails and have sourced some good rear ones so next step is to sandblast underside of car, i may build a jig to do this as will make easier to paint and weld.

looking a bit better than before Wink

also sprayed under dash brace ok you can't see it but the rust would bug me if left on

the big one IMG_3004_zps2adbb204

also sandblasted front bumper and primed between rain showers.

all ali bits are vapour blasted, so makes easier to keep clean and original looking.
all bumpers and brackets are sand blasted with fine media.
