WHY DID IT DO IT

Right the story goes like this....

Driving home this eve from the inlaws doing 60 or so on a duel carriageway with the lights in dipped beam as was starting to get dark all was well, I look down a few seconds later to realise the dash lights have gone off on the dash and the 3 cluster on the center console, heater lights still working. I pulled over and had a little feel around at back of dash to see if anything had come loose and all I had contact with felt ok. Would it be all bulbs blown at once or a dodgy wire, or fuse?? cant have a look now as its pitch black but will have a look in the morning. It just seems very weird that all the lights would go off at the same time.

The only wiring I have touched today was one of the wires for the DDPR shelf as it had come unsoldered so me n father in law resoldered it but all the lights were still working after and they are on seperate circuits anyway so surely wouldnt cause any issue.

Any possibilities/known faults would be helpfull and appreciated.

Proberbly the fuse in the box on the inner passenger wing.

Or the wire on the ppossitive battery conector. The red plug. There's a stiff wire about 4 inches long with a pug on either end with white gunky stuff on it. That can snap when the battery is removed.

The fuse is a small square brown one.

yeah i would say its blown a fuse too

just checked the fuses in engine bay none of them seemed to be blown just got the ones in drivers side of dash to look at in morning otherwise its down to blown bulbs by looks of it

Have you checked the wire on the red plug that's on the battery?

yea had a quick look and pulled it to check it hadnt broken loose or snapped and it was fine

Well the saga continues, the sidelights wont turn on but I have dipped and main beams cant see any fuses that have blown and I'v checked all I can find in the engine bay and under panel on drivers side dash, also checked to see if the rear lights were working and they werent other than for brakes so to sumerise my findings thus far..

Sidelights, rear lights and dashboard lights dont work but dipped/main beams do and all fuses I'v found and checked were fine so I'm stuck up shit creek without a paddle until I can find out the problem.

When I noticed it last night there was no smell of burning or flashes where wires could have been shorting out so I'm stumped as to an answer.

fucked stalk on steering wheel, or knocked wires out to it

heck the little earth connections just at rear of headlights to the inner wing base as these are prone to corrode

other possibility is a defective contact on the actual light stalk itself which is not making contact on the firt click, thats another common fault

Have you checked the plug on the stalk see if you have power going up to it? at or even going out . wiring is an ass wipe

If the stalk was fucked then surely wouldnt have dipped/main beams?, I'm starting to think its a dash out job:no:, will look in to it all though as with all wirering you just cant tell where the problems are unless they are right infront staring you in the face.
No havent got a multimetre.

No always mate as its a different mechanism you can pick up a multi meter quite cheap less than 20 quid well worth investing as at least your be able to isolate it to an area rather than guessing and your use it time and time again

fair enough:) I'll invest in one tomorrow morning then take off the shroud and have a ganders at all the wiring so hopefully all will become clear tomorrow.

If it is the stalk bob do you have any in stock??

dipped lights will still work as will main beam but side lights will be out as its not making a connection on first turn of stalk which livens the side lights only...yes got a set if you need them, they come complete with wiper stalk £15 and a fiver delivery

you forget one thing rich we all must have a certain amount of stupidty of owning pulsars in the frst place

well that is very true, im down in chatham this weekend if ur about for a blast.... providing the pulsar gremlins dont come a knocking again although its been fairly good for the 2 months iv owned mine not much has gone wrong 'touches wood'
