Hi all, next week gonna be the owner of a gtir running just under 500bhp. Fun little car. For me is gonna be a bit of a change as am used to driving a 680bhp escort mk1 with a cossie engine. But 4wd always appealed to me so looking forward to that.

Regards,

Vince

Yes, I did build it all myself, took me 4 years to do, due to financial reasons mainly, quarter mile is at 9.6secs on slicks.

The car is a Jap imported, imported in 1996 and owned by the same owner ever since. I know the guy myself and he used to look after it quite well.

Do it, although i must admit that for the road it might be a bit too much....

The gearbox is the standard box, albeit the third is on its way out so I will be getting a G force sequential. The axle is a Fiat 132 axle, with the internals welded, but again funds permitting will be getting a full strange axle 9". If you have any more questions that i can be of help in let me know.

Interesting, that the fiat 132 axle is handling the power....do you snap many half shafts

Actually if you weld the 132 diff, or manage to fit a spool, its good for around 800bhp, its a very solid unit. I did a 9.6 pass with this setup, and thats without NOS. I had racing fuel in and 25psi of boost, so i had around 800 to play with.

yeah those 132 diffs were used in a few motors due to their reliability, back in the day I used to use either those or xj6 rear diffs in the old mk3 Cortina savages and mk2 escorts as they took the torque with little trouble

about the only thing on a mirafiori that was any good lol

I remember my old man had an abath mirafloria at one point....it didn't last long we wrote it off by hitting a snow drift.......did know the axles were that strong.

lol you could write one off by slamming the door too hard.
they used them as taxis a lot in the 80s the boxer lumps in them were quite strong it was just the bodywork, gearboxes and electrics that were notoriously bad

Yep, the diff and axles where the only thing that stood the test of time and water for that matter.....A lot of them rusted off in a matter of weeks and that is in a maltese climate. Hilarious!

Thats the lampredi engine, is called after the guy who engineered it, awesome lump and practically indestructible, used in fiat 131, lancias and alfas of the era. Ended production in the fiat coupe.

That's the one.....rare over in the uk now.....I looked for an abath and found none...the uk owners club is non existent now too........I thought of building a hot mirafloria instead of a mk1/2 escort, but cannot find a car unsurprisingly
