That you hadn't started to fix a small hole?
My mom recently moved and has had some false walls made.
She had some plaster boards spare.
And i had a couple of holes needing repairing on the landing and in the kids bedroom.
So i started to square the hole off to patch it up.
Thats where i started wishing i hadn't fecking bothered!

This is how the hole finished off.

Ever wished... 20150220_164407_zpszybibdds

so now instead of patching it up.
I need to buy some full boards and then have it skimmed.

Should i take the laff off and fix the boards to the joists?

I would take them off stu stick couple extra noggin's in and board straight to joists. Few plasterboard screws and cordless drill

Get a second opinion but thats how i would do it. Plus if you tape joints or the plasterer dose properly they wont crack which means you could use handy boards

Ah the old plast and larve .... lovely stuff is that lol ..... two ways to do it stu .... smash the baton off .... and chuck some plasterboard up .... ideally gap between joists shouldnt be much more than 400 could get away with 500 but its pushing it chuck a few noggings in to help take up flex ..... or 2nd option is dot n dab plasterboard sheets onto the wall as is ...... either way i would get taperd joint plasterboard then all your filling is screw holes and one joint .... dry lining is easy so should be alright with it stu....

Thanks Leighton.
I was thinking of daubing the thinner boards on. But the laff joins sit on top of eachother. So thought maybe the boards wouldnt sit together properly as they would be riased?
I have the adhesive and tape already as i was going to patch up and tape over then just cross line some backing paper for a quick fix. ( That soon went out the window lol)
I think the nogging inbetween the joists is the better option. Should only take a morning hopefully Laughing
Will do it while kids are at school next week.

Sorry didnt see the door in the pic ..... in that case just rip them off de nail it .... and plasterboard/dryline it stu .... tips .... make sure you use scrim tape for the joints this will stop it cracking in the future ...get proper plasterboard screws they are cheap enough ... and make sure whenever you cut the board make sure the joint ends up on the middle of the timber ... you cant have a join with no backing behind it if that makes sense .... how big is the wall stu .... plasterboard sheets are 2400x 1200 .... so may lend itself to go horizontal insted of vertical ....

Hahaha you know me to well Laughing

The wall is approx 10ft wide by 7ft high upto the picture rail.
I will measure it up before i order the boards so i can work out which way is best to hang them.
Thanks again for the replies and tips :-)

I'd strip wall back and fit noggins to take new boards as said but skim the whole lot. Otherwise you won't be able to ever remove paper in the future to re paper if that makes sence.
