Hi all,

Just bought my first gtir about a month ago, after years of wanting one. Happy is an understatement, however, It needs a fair bit of tlc which I'm starting this weekend, any tips, advice and common issues to look out for would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few patches that need cutting and welding underneath, the door sills need cutting and welding or replacing if anyone knows of where to get replacements from. Then there's some bubbly arches which I will cut and weld patches on. I will take pictures as I go and try to keep a log of the work.

As for the engine, from what I can tell its pretty sound, just need to replace a turbo gasket (not sure which one yet).

Iphones are useless Laughing  ....thats much better ....shes a little bit rusty doesnt look to bad though .have to wait and see after a clean up also check where the sill ends and meets the inner arch they tend to go there ... do you weld yourself ?

14Newby from Brighton Empty Re: Newby from Brighton 29th August 2013, 10:59 pm

Jack.ramus

I've scraped some of the underseal off and I think I've found the majority of the rust, I'm sure there will a couple of little suprises she got hidden up her sleeve. I've found a little bit at the end of the sill, I'll probably find a load more once I remove the sills. I do a lot of TIG welding at work, I'm borrowing a MIG for this though and haven't used one for about 5 years so a little practice may be in order.

Oh right what is it you do then mate ....mig is easiest i think  aslong as you dont get it to hot as it will warp the panels but im sure i dont need to tell you that lol .
