Hi Guys,

Im having an issue with my car just now as title says, keeps going into limp mode and cutting boost to 0.5bar. i noticed the car was running poor performance with a slight hesitation and slow boost pickup so im looking to replace the dizzy cap, rotor, plugs and give it a service but as the car keeps going into limp mode im wondering if there is anything else i should be checking?

im running on standard boost with only air filter, mongoose exhaust, magnecor leads, car is always run on highest octane fuel (tesco 99) and the problem happens even when normal driving.

can anyone help with this, i reset the ecu and the problem goes away but then cuts back in soon after, i hear the det sensor can be a fault, if so how can i replace this or check that it is at fault? fault code check reads 55 everytime it happens

the fault happened occasionally about a year ago but disapperaed over the winter and now it has returned worse, should i even be driving it while its doing this or will it cause damage (need the car to do the school run etc)

Thanks in advance

Have you done a fault code check?

Det sensor is at the back of the engine. A bitch to get to but doable.

It could be the amplifier that's over heating. It's bolted to the block.

is it even worth replacing the dizzy and rotor or is that a complete different problem?

The amplifier is just over from the dizzy. To the right, it's bolted to the block. People put some computer heat disapator or something between it and the block.
I wouldn't change the rotor arm in cap. But would put standard ht leads back on!

thanks again, i had a little root around tonight and took the plugs out which were all fine then i took the dizzy cap off to have a look, doesnt look right to me so ive attached a picture, could it be the culprit?

i always thought that the red leads would have been better but i will be changing them for standard if you guys say they are shit.

Im not saying thats your problem just its different to mine ..... obviously most will say get the genuine part but i dont see it will be a problem going to a motorfactors it still has to reach a certain standard .... plus it will be a shit load cheaper lol .... does the points in the cap look corroded or anything i cant quite see the other side ?
